Basketball League gets big boost
Jamaica’s premier basketball competition the National Basketball League received a tremendous boost this morning through a record $8 million sponsorship from the country’s leading broadband communications provider, FLOW.
The announcement was made at the press launch held at The Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston. The competition will now be called the National Basketball League, Powered by FLOW.
The new season, which starts on Saturday, will be staged under the theme ‘Are You Ready for Gameday’.
A record 27 teams including 12 from the Southern Conference and five each from the Western, Central and Eastern Conferences will compete this season.
The winner will receive $300,000, while the runner-up will get $125,000. Third place will receive $65,000 and fourth place $40,000.
There will also be a Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards.
The league will be shown to over one million homes through regional broadcaster SportsMax that broadcasts to 22 Caribbean countries.
