The US says it has finally arrested a suspect hijacker who reportedly took part in the hijacking of a plane from New York to Cuba more than 40 years ago.

Luis Armando Pena was reportedly living in Cuba and had been on the FBI\'s list of most wanted criminals longer than anyone else.

Media reports say the 66-year-old man had arrived in the United States from Cuba after offering to turn himself in to the American authorities.

Prosecutors say Mr Pena and his accomplices, armed with guns and knives, boarded a plane bound for Puerto Rico at JFK Airport in New York in November 1968 and ordered the pilot to reroute it to Cuba.
