Bermuda’s Police Commissioner George Jackson, is to retire in mid-December after four years in the post.

Governor Sir Richard Gozney has confirmed Jackson’s retirement.

He said a successor will be announced shortly.

However Sir Richard said he would prefer to see the top post occupied by Bermudians or long-term residents rather than expatriates.

Meanwhile, the Governor said the police service has emerged much stronger at the end of Jackson’s tenure, as a result of a series of steps taken under his leadership.
