New Zealand recover to post 276 for six
Ross Taylor scored 94 and Martin Guptill 60 as New Zealand overcame the loss of a wicket from the first ball to reach 276 for six at stumps on today’s opening day of the first cricket Test against Pakistan at the University Oval.
Teenage paceman, Mohammad Aamer, bowled Tim McIntosh with the first ball of the three-test series to give Pakistan a perfect start after they had won the toss and bowled.
Mohammad Asif had Daniel Flynn caught by wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal for eight to leave New Zealand at 27 for two, but Guptill, with his first Test half century, and Taylor, with his fifth, restored the New Zealand innings in a 117-run, third-wicket partnership.
At stumps, Daniel Vettori was not out on 40 and Brendon McCullum on 25.
Asif was the most successful bowler for Pakistan with three for 76 from 24 overs, while Mohammad Aamer ended with two for 62 off 19 overs.
