Pakistan closing in on test victory over Australia
Pakistan are closing in on their first Test victory over Australia in 14 years after restricting the hosts to a slender 80-run lead in the second Test with just two wickets in hand.
Australia closed today’s third day on 286 for 8 batting a second time with Mike Hussey unbeaten on 73 and Peter Siddle on 10.
The pair has so far put on 29 for the ninth wicket to give Ricky Ponting’s men a glimmer of hope as they look to avoid their first loss to Pakistan since the 1994-1995 series.
Experienced leg spinner, Danish Kaneria, 4 for 117, did most of the damage removing Marcus North for 2, Brad Haddin for 15 and Mitchell Johnson for 3 after tea, as Australia lost 5 wickets for 87 runs in the final session of the day.
Scores in the game so far are Australia 127 and 286 for 8, Pakistan 333.
Meanwhile, over in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka beat India by 5 wickets in the second match of a one-day international tri-series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Scores in the game are India 279 for 9, Sri Lanka 283 for 5.
Sir Lanka had beaten Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the opening match yesterday.
