ICC paying close attention to corruption
Cricket’s world governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) says it will take a firmer stance on corruption for the Under-19 World Cup, scheduled to bowl off in New Zealand next week.
ICC Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, says those involved in betting were focused on infiltrating youth tournaments, in order to gain a foothold in the international circle.
Lorgat says players will be briefed on the ICC Anti-Doping Code with anti-doping education sessions being held for each team.
The tournament will bowl off with the official warm-ups matches on January 11 and will get going in earnest four days later when the preliminary round starts.
Sixteen teams will do battle in four groups across five cities, with defending champions Pakistan facing West Indies in the opening match in Palmerston North.
