A report from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation is warning of a significant increase in attacks on education.

These include assassinations and bomb attacks on staff and students in 31 countries around the world.

The report published today warns of the degradation of communities facing such atrocities.

In the document dubbed: \"Education under Attack 2010\", the United Nations reveals a pattern of systematic attacks on teachers, students, schools and universities.

The report highlights that in the last three years teachers have been murdered in Thailand, schools destroyed in Afghanistan, and schoolgirls sexually assaulted in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In Brazil, narco-guerrillas are reportedly trying to control schools.
