Opposition files no confidence motion
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has reportedly filed a motion of no confidence in the Prime Minister, Patrick Manning.
A statement from the Office of the Leader of the Opposition claims that Manning, who was re-elected in November 2007, has lost the confidence of the population because of his questionable conduct in a number of controversial matters.
The motion follows the controversy surrounding the embattled former chairman of the state-owned Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDECOTT) Calder Hart.
Hart resigned over the weekend amid media reports on Sunday that he had been fired by the government.
In his letter of resignation, Hart made no reference to the ongoing controversy.
Persad-Bissessar, who was sworn in as Opposition Leader late last month, has written Speaker Barry Sinanan requesting that the motion be debated at the next sitting of Parliament.
