Hinds included in WI 20/20 squad

The West Indies selectors have surprisingly recalled veteran Jamaican batsman Wavell Hinds in a 15-man squad for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World 20/20 Championship in the Caribbean from April 30 to May 11.

Chairman of the selectors Clyde Butts says Hinds will bring a wealth of experience to the squad because he is a knowledgeable cricketer.

Hinds last represented the West Indies in February during the Australia tour, as a last-minute replacement for Dwayne Bravo. That was his first recall since 2006.

The squad includes three other Jamaicans, captain Chris Gayle, spinner Nikita Miller and pacer Jerome Taylor, who has recovered from back injuries.

Also returning from injury is seasoned batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan.

The selectors have kept faith with Grenadian top order batsman Andre Fletcher although he has been performing poorly. He is expected to serve as back-up wicketkeeper to Denesh Ramdin, who himself has been under-performing with the bat.

The remaining members of the squad are Sulieman Benn, Dwayne Bravo, Shiv Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Kieron Pollard, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach and Darren Sammy.
