World Junior team to assemble today in Kingston
Jamaica’s 38-member squad for the 13th International Association of Athletics Federations World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada is scheduled to assemble in Kingston today before departing tomorrow.
The weeklong Championships will start next Monday.
Reigning men’s 100-metre champion Dexter Lee, National Junior discus record holder Chad Wright and quarter-miler Jodi-Ann Muir are the top medal contenders in the squad.
Lee, who has a personal best 10.20 seconds, is seeking to become the first athlete to repeat as champion.
Wright is strongly fancied to medal in the discus. He holds the National Junior Records for the discus at 63.11 metres and shot put at 18.87 metres.
Muir is the leading Jamaican Junior female 400-metre runner with a personal best 52.79 seconds.
The team will seek to surpass the six medals won at the last Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland in 2008.
