Belize opposition calls for trafficking inquiry
The leader of the main opposition party in Belize, John Briceño has written to Prime Minister Dean Barrow requesting a Commission of Inquiry to probe the incidents involving three plane loads of Chinese which landed in the country over a 3-week period.
The flights, originating in Haiti since Mid-September, are said to have brought close to three dozen Chinese who carried what has been deemed to be false Belize visas.
A government investigation into the whereabouts has proven inconclusive.
Briceño wants Prime Minister Barrow to appoint a Commission of Inquiry to examine the use of illegal visas to travel to Belize and the facilitation of persons travelling with these visas.
In a statement last night, Briceno said the Commission of Inquiry should have appropriately framed terms of reference to ensure that a comprehensive inquiry can be undertaken.
According to him, the Belizean people want to see those responsible for this breach of national security held accountable.
