Rain, no play again between WI, Sri Lanka
West Indies players were again confined to net practice as the third and final day of their three-day warm up match ahead of the opening test against Sri Lanka was washed out.
Sri Lanka Cricket President's Eleven side was set to resume on 59 for three, replying to West Indies’ first innings total of 176. However, heavy overnight rain for a second day left the outfield at the Sinhalese Sports Club flooded.
On Wednesday’s opening day, West Indies made a timid start to their tour, suffering a familiar batting collapse.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, West Indies was dismissed for a paltry 176, after cruising at 110 for three at one stage. West Indies vice-captain Brendan Nash top-scored with 62.
West Indies will now travel to the southern city of Galle in the morning for the start of the first Test against Sri Lanka on Monday.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket selectors have decided to rest strike bowler Lasith Malinga for the first Test.
A Sri Lanka Cricket official says Malinga was being rested because of the amount of cricket he played on the recent tour of Australia.
But media reports indicate that Malinga also has a lingering knee problem.
Malinga was the Man-of-the-Series in Sri Lanka’s 2–1 victory over Australia in a recent One-day International series.
