Chris Gayle puts West Indies on top

Chris Gayle plundered a brutal, unbeaten double century to put the West Indies firmly in control after the first day of the first Test against hosts Sri Lanka in Galle.
The flamboyant opener, on his first Test innings since losing the captaincy to Darren Sammy smashed 219 not out to lead West Indies to 362 for two at stumps.
Gayle’s knock included 26 fours and eight sixes. He has so far faced 247 balls. There were also fifties for Adrian Barath and the debutant Darren Bravo.
Barath scored 50 from 86 deliveries, while Barren Bravo had 58 from 159 balls.
Shivnarine Chanderpual, made a low-key 20 not out before stumps.
Ajanta Mendis and Suraj Randiv have taken a wicket apiece.
