West Indies, Sri Lanka heading for draw

The opening Test between West Indies and hosts Sri Lanka at Galle is interestingly going into the final day with the hosts 89 without loss following on.



From an overnight 165 for three, Sri Lanka got to 378 for nine, needing three more runs to avoid following on, when Shane Shillingford took the last wicket on a rain ruined fourth day.



The off-spinner finished with a career-best four for 123 from 32.2 overs to help bowl West Indies to a health first innings lead of 202.



Pacer Kemar Roach supported with three for 75 from 19 overs.



With a health first innings lead, new West Indies captain Darren Sammy asked the Sri Lankans to bat again and the home team reached 89 without loss when the rain interrupted with 22 overs remaining in the day.



It was the second straight day that the weather had played a significant role in the match.



Tharanga Paranavitana and Tillakaratne Dilshan are both on 44 not out.



Kumar Sangakkara 73, Mahela Jayawardene 59, Prasanna Jayawardene 58 and Thilan Samaraweera 52 scored half centuries for Sri Lanka in the first innings.



West Indies declared their first innings at 580 for nine with captain Chris Gayle scoring a Test-best 333, his second triple century.



West Indies are seeking their first-ever Test victory in Sri Lanka.
