Portmore United, Waterhouse secure victories
Former champions Portmore United and Waterhouse secured important victories to move closer to overall leaders and end-of-first-round champions Tivoli Gardens as the second round of the Digicel Premier League continued yesterday.
Portmore United recorded the bigger victory by blanking Tivoli Gardens 2-0 at Ferdie Neita Park to remain in third place but three points behind the leaders and one adrift of second place Waterhouse.
Brian Bailey, 68th minute and Tremaine Stewart, in time added on, scored for the home side, which moved to 33 points, while Tivoli Gardens remain on 36 points.
Over at Drewsland Stadium, Kevin Lamey scored in the 75th minute to lead Waterhouse to a 1-0 victory over second-from-the-bottom Humble Lion.
Defending champions Harbour View slipped to fifth place following a 1-0 defeat to Village United at the Harbour View Stadium. Dino Williams scored the lone goal in the 38th minute to push the Village to ninth place.
Boys’ Town climbed to fourth after battling to a 1-1 tie with Sporting Central Academy at Brancourt in Clarendon.
In other games, Reno whipped Benfica 3-1 at Frome Complex in Westmoreland and last place St Georges scored a 1-0 win over eighth place Arnett Gardens at Lynch Park in Portland.
