Former Antigua Prime Minister found guilty

Former Antiguan Prime Minister Lester Bird is among seven members of the main Opposition Antigua Labour Party found guilty of contravening the Public Order Act.

They have been fined EC$1,500 or US$550 each.

The seven were ordered to pay two-thirds of the amount or serve a nine-month prison term.

But they are appealing their convictions.

The court case stems from an incident when Bird and his Opposition colleagues went ahead with a rally despite an order from the Police High Command against it.
