Shoppers in Cuba are reportedly stocking up on soap, toothpaste and detergent ahead of a price jump which will take effect with impending end of state subsidies.

The Cuban government has announced plans to drop personal hygiene products from the monthly ration allocated to citizens since the Cuban revolution.

The move which takes effect tomorrow is part of a series of economic reforms aimed at reducing state debt.

However sugar, beans, meat, rice, eggs, bread and other basic products will remain subsidised.
