Jamaica got their 20/20 campaign off to a good start by easily defeating reigning champions Guyana by 50 runs last night at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.

The game was the second match of the 2011 season.

Guyana, set a victory target of 116 runs, suffered a dramatic batting collapse and were dismissed for 65 with 15 deliveries remaining.

Fast bowler Andre Russell was the pick of the Jamaican bowlers with three for eight off three overs; while David Bernard Junior and Krishmar Santokie ended with two wickets apiece.

Earlier Jamaica, sent in to bat, struggled to 115 for seven from their allocation of 20 overs against the bowling of Royston Crandon three for 21.

Marlon Samuels top scored for Jamaica with 42 from 48 balls, while Dave Bernard Junior got 22 from 20 and Nikita Miller 19 not out from 12 deliveries.

Jamaica will next face Combined Campuses and Colleges tomorrow, while Guyana will place English county champions Somerset, also on the day.

Meanwhile, a stroke-filled 88 from Andre Fletcher set Windward Islands up for a 28-run victory over Combined Campuses and College in the tournament opener at the same venue.

Fletcher struck five fours and four sixes from 59 balls to lead Windwards to 189 for three from their allocation of 20 overs.

Combined Campuses and College were then restricted to 161 for eight against the bowling of Mervin Matthew two for 27 and Nelon Pascal two for 25.

The competition continues today with Canada playing Hampshire Royals at 4 p.m. and Leeward Islands facing Barbados at 8 p.m.
