Jamaican goalshooter Romelda Aikens scored 37 goals from 43 attempts to lead the Queensland Firebirds to a 57-53 victory over New South Wales Swifts in the ANZ Championship in Australia yesterday.

Aikens was supported by goal attack Natalie Medhurst, who scored 20 points as Queensland Firebirds rally back to keep their unbeaten record.

The Firebirds were trailing 24-31 at half time but levelled the scores with 2 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the period, and gained a 42-41 lead going into the final break.

The Firebirds held their nerve in a dramatic final stanza, holding a slim advantage throughout via their defensive exploits and the ability of Aiken to sink vital goals.

As a result of the victory, the Firebirds moved to 12 points to remain top of the standings.
