Jamaicans go for more medals today

Jamaican high schools will continue their hunt for medals on today’s final day of the three-day Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Pennyslvania.



The medal hunt for Jamaica began at 9:00 a.m. with 10 Jamaican high schoolboys down to run in the 400-metre hurdles Championship.



At 10:00 a.m. David Hall of Kingston, Demar Robinson of Calabar High School, Kemarki Absalom of St George’s College and Jamaica College’s Ashani Wright started competition in the High School Boys’ High Jump Championship.



Kingston College’s Xavier Boland is down to take part in the High School Boys’ Pole Vault, which also started at 10:00 a.m.



Meanwhile, Jamaican High Schools secured two gold medals on Day Two of the Penn Relays last evening.



National Junior record holder for the discus, Calabar’s Traves Smikle wrote his name in the record books as he erased the one year old record of 58.50 metres set by his former teammate Chad Wright with a new mark of 69. 45 metres.



And Edwin Allen accounted for the other gold medal in the High School Girls’ 4 by 800 Championship of America. The quartet of Desreen Montague, Marleena Eubanks, Carla Thompson, Ristananna Tracey clocked eight minutes 39 point 22 seconds for the victory over Long Beach Poly and Holmwood Technical.
