Asafa win men’s 100 at Jamaica Trials

Former world record holder Asafa Powell recovered from a bad start to win the men’s 100-metre final last night at the JAAAs/Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships at the National Stadium.
Powell clocked 10.08 seconds for the victory, to edge out Yohan Blake, who clocked 10.09. Steve Mullings finished third in 10.09 and collected the final automatic slot for the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Meanwhile, Veronica Campbell-Brown easily won the women’s 100-metres in 10.84 seconds. Kerron Stewart was second in 10.97 and Jura Levy claimed a surprise third in 11.10 to book her ticket to Daegu.
Earlier, Kaliese Spencer as expected landed the women’s 400-metre hurdles by clocking 54.15. Ristananna Tracey clocked a personal best 54.58 for second. The time was also a national junior record.
Leford Green won the men’s equivalent in 49.19. Second went to Josef Robertson in 49.64, while Roxroy Cato took third in 49.66.
Day three of the four-day meet began this morning at 9:00 a.m with the men’s 200-metre heats.
