National Security Minister in the Bahamas O.A Turquest says improvements to the criminal justice system and the implementation of social and educational programmes are among measures being put in place to address criminal activities in the country.

Turnquest said the two measures, when combined with other crime-fighting initiatives will significantly impact the crime situation.

The National Security Minister said the initiatives are being sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development.

He was addressing the first Regional Community-Based Policing Conference today.

The Caribbean Media Corporation reported that the conference is also expected to develop concrete plans to be implemented to achieve the objectives of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.
