Jamaica returns with nine medals from university games

Jamaica’s contingent to the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China is returning home with nine medals following yesterday’s final day of track and field.
Jamaica’s medal haul comprises six gold, two silver and a bronze. They are second in the gold medal table, behind Russia Federation with 31 medals comprising 11 gold, 11 silver and nine bronze.
Jamaica only took part in track and field. The games will finish tomorrow.
The Jamaicans ended their campaign yesterday with a bronze medal in the women’s 4 x 100-metre relay.
The quartet of Shermaine Williams, Carrie Russell, Anneisha McLaughlin and Anastasia Leroy clocked 43.57 second for the bronze. Ukraine took the gold medal in 43.33 seconds, while the United States won the silver in 43.48.
South Africa won the men’s 4 x 100-metre gold medal in 39.25. Jamaica were disqualified in the heats.
