Australia beat South Africa

Australia beat hosts South Africa by two wickets in the second and final test to draw the series after a gripping fifth day at the Wanderers today.



Bowlers Mitchell Johnson and 18-year-old debutant Pat Cummins guided their team to a victory target of 310, after the Aussies had resumed the final day on 142 for three.



Australia finished on 310 for eight in fading light, following the loss of the day’s first session because of rain. It was the highest successful run chase at the Wanderers.



Johnson ended on 40 not out and Cummins 13 not out. Ricky Ponting, who was 54 overnight, departed for 62.



The victory came 11 days after Australia’s embarrassing defeat at Newlands in Cape Town where they were bowled out for their lowest Test score of 47 in 109 years.



Vernon Philander was the most successful bowler for South Africa with five for 70 off 20 overs.



Final scores in the match South Africa are 266 and 339, Australia 296 and 310 for eight.
