The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid in Haiti says at least six people were killed due to floods from two days of rainfall.

The UN office said the deaths occurred in the north and northwestern part of the country.

According to a UN statement, two people died in a landslide in the area of Limbe and two others drowned while trying to cross a river.

So far, more than 700 people have been displaced as a result of the rains that began lashing the French-speaking CARICOM country on April 8.

Haiti is recovering from a powerful earthquake in 2010 that killed an estimated 300,000 people and left more than a million others homeless.

Last month, six other people were killed in the capital area after mudslides crashed through their homes.
