An Egyptian court has sentenced former President Hosni Mubarak to life in prison for complicity in the killing of protesters during last year's uprising.

However, according to Egypt’s State television the 84-year-old Mubarak suffered a health crisis as he was being transferred to prison.

Former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly has also been sentenced to life in prison.

Mubarak and his two sons were, however, acquitted on separate charges of corruption.

Shouting and scuffles erupted in court as the acquittal of four of Mubarak’s former aides sparked fury.

There have been several calls for demonstrations later on Saturday to protest against the verdict.
