Bunting would need divine intervention to win PNP presidential race - Ashley

As heavyweights in the People’s National Party (PNP) begin to angle to take over the leadership, political commentator Dr. Paul Ashley says Dr Peter Phillips has the better chance of taking over the reins of the party.

Yesterday, PNP Region Three chairman Phillip Paulwell named Peter Phillips as his favourite to take over if Simpson Miller steps aside.

At the same time,  former PNP General Secretary Peter Bunting said he is interested in the PNP presidency.

Ashley says he believes Phillips stands a better chance of winning the presidency should Simpson Miller step aside.

As for Bunting, Ashley thinks he would need divine intervention to get the support of delegates to win a presidential election.

Ashley says Bunting's real problem is his favourability among the general populace.

Ashley also says he doesn't believe the comrades' announcements will hasten Simpson Miller's departure from the presidential post, as the potential candidates may withdraw their interests at any time.

The political commentator also says he strongly believes none of the interested comrades will challenge her for the coveted post of PNP president.

Simpson Miller has refused to say when she'll step down as PNP president.
