The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) hosted cocktails by the poolside last Friday evening at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel, in celebration of 50 years of service in Jamaica.

The mood was relaxed as guests mingled end enjoyed pleasant music.

UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP resident representative, Bruno Pouezat, spoke about Jamaica and the UNDP's shared hope, passion, responsibilities and vision for humanity. Pouezat said his team remained committed to making Jamaica the place of choice to live and work.

"Though this is a celebration, it is also a milestone. It is an occasion to recommit our role to get Jamaica to success. Our services remain relevant, and we are equipped to stay relevant," he said.

Trevor Gordon-Somers, former UNDP official, believes there is still room for developing creative and dynamic relations.

"I am an optimist, and I believe Jamaica's growth and development will improve," he said.

The Ashe Company's performance was a highpoint of the night as they entertained the audience using dance, song and drums to share a range of messages on sustainable development and the UNDP's role in Jamaica.

The night continued with hors d'oeuvres and glass-clinking in celebration.
