Mr Ambassador pulls rank in Cecil C Charlton feature

MR AMBASSADOR easily won yesterday's 1300-metre Cecil C. Charlton Memorial feature race, finishing almost four lengths ahead of 7-1 outsider DINNER BY SEVEN. Partnered by three-kilo claiming apprentice, Oneil Scott, MR AMBASSADOR went off as the even-money favourite in the 10-horse line-up and sprinted clear of rivals on a wet track.

The five-year-old gelding was never in danger of defeat, especially after second-favourite STORMING left the gate slowly and had to be rushed through the field, eventually finishing third.

Hot apprentice Anthony Thomas carried his Superstakes-winning form from Saturday to the midweek card, making all astrideFORTUNEONEHUNDRED in the second race at odds of 2-1.

Thomas, who won Saturday's biggest races, the Superstakes and Caribbean Sprint, astride SHE'S A MANEATER and CHACE THE GREAT, respectively, closed the programme with a determined finish aboard 9-1 shot BIG AL at 1000 metres straight

Jockey Dane Nelson also won two races, howling favourite HEAT IT UP in the fourth and 8-1 outsider UNION FOUR in the seventh.

Other stinging upsets on the card included 73-1 shocker VICTORY RUN in the third and ZEUS at 21-1, a chance ride for Phillip Parchment in the sixth, replacing Andre Martin.

Michael Marlowe's MARQUESAS won the Abbie Grannum Memorial co-feature for two-year-old maidens, posting a decent 1:26.0 for 1400 metres with Shane Ellis aboard.
