JLP, PNP must find common ground on crime

THE EDITOR, Sir:

At this stage, I would not place the blame for the current, unchecked spate of violence that is rocking our country at the feet of either political party because, while it may have had its genesis in political rivalry, this savagery has long transcended that realm. What we are now witnessing is cold-hearted barbarism.

What I will, however, blame our politicians for is their obvious lack of desire and will to end it.

For years, the one-upmanship in the debate is a clear indication to me that both sides appear to want to have something to blame the other for, and a platform for getting themselves back into power or to stay in power.

How can we believe that if both sides of the political divide came together with genuine best efforts, we cannot solve this?

Our politicians need to work together to rid us of this scourge which is affecting every aspect of Jamaican life.

If North Korea and South Korea can take the massive steps they have taken to unite, why can't our politicians do the same in the interest of our people, and especially our children?
