Leader of the Opposition Dr Peter Phillip this afternoon tabled a motion in parliament calling for the Government to establish an independent Commission of Enquiry to probe the air quality and related issues at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James.

Phillips tabled the motion a short while ago.

He's proposing that the Commission would examine:

i) A determination of the extent to which the medical and non-medical staff of the hospital have had their health compromised.

ii) The extent to which family members and patients of the hospital may have been affected.

iii) The precise chemical or biological agents causing noxious fumes.

iv) The reasons for the delays in the decision to evacuate the main building.

Phillips wants the composition of the Commission to be determined on the recommendations of the membership of the professional organisations of the doctors and nurses and using the expertise of the local academic institutions (The University of the West Indies, the University of Technology and Northern Caribbean University, among others.

The parliamentary opposition has been hammering the government over the ongoing air quality issues at Cornwall Regional Hospital.
