Montego Bay chamber seeks to clarify position on $17 million welcome sign

The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce is seeking to clarify its position on the controversial $17 million 'Welcome to Montego Bay' sign.

In a release Thursday afternoon, the chamber said while its supports the standard of the products to be used for the sign it is concerned about the budgeted $17 million price tag.

He was reacting to a story carried earlier in The Gleaner.

President Winston Lawson has urged the authorities to ensure that the project is implemented in a cost effective way.

On Wednesday, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett ordered his permanent secretary to undertake a review of the project.

There has been outcry about the cost to construct the new sign.

The original 'Welcome to Montego Bay' sign was damaged during a traffic crash earlier this year.
