A female prisoner is now in hospital nursing stab wounds after being attacked by another inmate at the Fort Augusta Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston.

The Gleaner was informed that the attack occurred sometime between last night and this morning while the victim was asleep.

The victim was rescued by wardens roughly half hour after the incident.

It is unclear what instrument was used to inflict the wounds.

The victim was reportedly stabbed seven times including in her side and spine.

One of her lungs is said to have collapsed.

An official at the Department of Correctional Services told our news team that the agency is addressing the incident.

“She [the victim] is being treated. That much I can tell you. I am sure she [the perpetrator] is being dealt with.

"When things like this happen, we deal with it and address the situation, whether the perpetrator is to be confined, relocated or need medical attention for psychological problems.”
