The Church has moved away from the true fundamentals of Jesus
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I read with interest a commentary published in The Gleaner on Friday January 25, 2019 written by Mr Peter Espuet entitled ‘To heal Christ’s broken body’.
In his commentary, Mr Espuet lamented the need for unity among believers in Christ Jesus as a means of healing. Quite correctly, Christ founded one Church. Hence, Mr Espuet’s bewailing the many different denominations around today, which is the fundamental cause of this brokenness and disunity.
But let me point out very forcefully that there can't be unity when many a denominations, including Catholicism (the true protestants), of the Apostolic Faith have moved away from the true fundamentals of the Church of Jesus, which began in Jerusalem.
Since AD 200, there has been a departure from the Divine pattern of organization, doctrine, worship, etc., contained in the New Testament. These include: the baptismal mode in scripture from "in Jesus name” to the titles of “Father, Son and Holy Spirit”; the infilling of the Holy Spirit, with the initial evidence of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gave utterance; and the Godhead, purporting a three Divine being when there is but one God. Just to name a few crucial elements of the Christian Faith. (See Acts 19:1-6; 2:38; Isaiah 44:6; Colossians 2:9; 1Timothy 3:16)
So for there to be unity of the Church, there has to be a going back to the Bible and recognising the true principles given by Jesus and His apostles and continuing in the precepts of the Church that started in Jerusalem.
One Lord, one Faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:5).
