#Metoo…The justice system protects men, too
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The hystericaL MeToo Movement continues to gain traction in America. Based on the reasoning of activists behind the movement, citizens ought to believe all women who accuse men of rape, with absolutely no regard for due process.
Fortunately, the justice system in Jamaica operates with probity, and one can be sued for defaming the character of another citizen. Educator and commentator Dr Canute Thompson experienced an assault on his reputation when a gender activist improperly accused him of committing a crime.
Unlike foreign jurisdictions, the calumnious statements of this activist were not automatically taken to be true. As a result, Dr Thompson took the matter to court and was awarded $16 million.
This precedent should serve as an example to those unhinged feminists who want to tarnish the reputation of venerable men. The Jamaican justice system will not weaken the definition of sexual crimes to appease deluded women whose sole purpose is to destroy men. This is Jamaica, and unlike America, we do not believe that all allegations are equally authentic.
