Struggling Dinthill travel to Charlemont in search of first win
The 2019 ISSA/WATA DaCosta Cup resumes this afternoon with 34 matches across all groups at 3:30 p.m. An exciting match-up in Group K will see Charlemont High School hosting last season's semi-finalists Dinthill Technical High School, who have found themselves backed into a corner, having lost all three games so far.
After going down 3-2 to Charlemont last Saturday, coach of Dinthill Technical, Xavier Gilbert, said that they will be taking a different approach this time around. Their primary focus is to stop the Ben Francis Cup champions from scoring.
"Definitely, all or nothing," Gilbert said. "We have to get three points to have any chance of advancing. We know it's going to be difficult, but we are putting in the work."
"Yes, we didn't get the better of them, but I think we have just been unfortunate. We are not taking anything away from Charlemont, however, I think faulty finishing and poor decision in the final third has put us where we are on points table thus far this season.
"We want to stay in the hunt, so we have to keep our concentration going in order to not concede any goals, which is our main objective. We have managed to find goals in our last two games, so we want to keep it that way. Once we keep a clean sheet and find a way to get the ball in the back of the net, we definitely will get our three points."
Over in Group F, Mile Gully High School, who were beaten 5-0 by Manchester High School in their first leg encounter, will be looking to putting in a better shift this time at home.
Coach Barry Watson, who told The Gleaner that an injury to their captain and star player Javeel Coley in the game two Saturdays ago, was a partial reason for their loss. He is, however, expecting a better performance, especially with the possible return of Coley.
"We are definitely looking to do much better than what we did at Manchester High School," Watson said. "Coley is still not yet fully fit, but I figure he might play a role in tomorrow's (today's) encounter. And I must say it's a much-improved team that Manchester will be playing tomorrow.
"I don't know about providing a point or getting back at anyone, but we really want to improve our performance as we did poorly in the first leg. The guys trained much better than before and are more confident now."
