Carolyn Cooper’s column inspires

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Greetings, I am a big fan of Carolyn Cooper’s work. Her columns in The Sunday Gleaner have been a staple for my family; we find her writings relatable and refreshingly honest.

I find that while ethnic identity and self-worth is often missing or not reported widely in the media, her columns are focusing on these issues. My 11- and 15-year-old boys read her work with enthusiasm, finding the humour, knowledge, and those ‘Oh yeah, mi neva tink bout dat’ thoughts. Their conversations and discussions now echo positivity.

Every day, l battle the schools of thought that depletes and degrades our cultural identity, and as a people we are gravitating to religious and educational groups which limit our thoughts and aspirations. Thank you for providing me with anxiety-free reading material. I am proud to have stumbled upon someone who openly embraces their roots without doubts. Please keep inspiring me.
