La Sonja Harrison wins JTA presidential election

Harrison is to be proclaimed president-elect at the JTA's annual conference next month but will take the reins as association's boss for the year 2022 to 2023.

St Faith's Primary School principal La Sonja Harrison has won the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA's) presidential election.

She is to be proclaimed president-elect at the JTA's annual conference next month but will take the reins as the association's boss for the year 2022 to 2023.

Harrison was the early front-runner in a field of five candidates in what was a high-stakes election.

For the second year running, the JTA held online and in-person voting.

Voting was held from June 20 to 25 across the island.

Here's the final tally:

1. La Sonja Harrison - 3,724 votes

2. Leighton Johnson - 1,343 votes

3. Eaton McNamee - 1,319 votes

4. Timroy Shaw - 721 votes

5. Anthony Kennedy - 474 votes
