Install cameras in police stations

THE EDITOR Madam:
The recent incident with Rastafarian lady Nzinga King is really a travesty of justice. It is so wrong to trim a person for wearing locks and a violation of their constitutional rights. My bone of contention is the lack of accountability and transparency by the officers in office. Every police station should have closed-circuit TV cameras to ensure the safety of the officers, too. The circumstances leading to the trimming of Nzinga’s locks would be clearer if there were cameras in the police station.
Cameras should also be installed on the precincts of police stations. I implore on the authorities to come forward and do the right thing in lobbying for cameras. In this modern age, we ought to be on the right footing to ensure that things are done in the appropriate way.
We need a society with equity in the criminal justice system wherein we can strive to protect those in authority and the vulnerable. Justice for all should be an integral part of our being. Cameras should be playing an effective role in the stemming of bloodletting in the country. We should always strive for equal rights and justice as our icon Peter Tosh has said in his song.
