#WorldU20 | Vascianna, Nugent cruise through to sprint hurdles finals
Jamaica's sprint hurdlers Vashaun Vascianna and Ackera Nugent have both advanced to the finals of their events comfortably at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya on Friday.
Nugent won her Women's 100m Hurdles semi-final heat in 13.02 seconds, making her the fastest overall qualifier from the round. Her teammate Oneka Wilson won heat one in 13.39s, making her the fourth fastest qualifier overall for the final.
It takes place on Saturday at 4 p.m. (8 a.m. Jamaica time).
Vascianna clocked a season's best 13.35s to win heat one of the Men's 110m Hurdles semi-finals and go through as the second fastest overall from the round. He is Jamaica's only entry in the event. His final takes place 15 minutes after the Women's.
Bryan Levell, who had a false start in the Men's 100m semi-finals earlier this week, bounced back in the Men's 200m first round heats. He won heat three in 20.90s to qualify for the semi-finals as eighth fastest overall.
His teammate Gregory Prince is out after finishing heat two in eighth in 21.53s.
The semi-finals come up on Friday at 5:05 p.m. (9:05 a.m.)
On the women's side, Bryana Lyston won her heat in a personal best time of 23.18s to qualify third fastest overall. Her teammate Aalliyah Francis is also through, finishing third in her heat in 24.06s. She is however 17th fastest overall, going into the semi-finals.
Namibia's Beatrice Masilingi, a Tokyo Olympic Games finalist over this distance, was the fastest qualifier, winning her heat in 22.65s. She will be joined by her teammate Christine Mboma, the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, who won her heat in 23.23s to qualify fourth fastest overall.
Their semi-final comes up on Friday at 4:40 p.m. (8:40 a.m.).
Shantae Foreman qualified for the final from Group B of the Women's Long Jump. Although it was not an automatic qualifying mark, she placed second in the group with a jump of 6.27m.
The final round takes place on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. (8:25 a.m.).
Cedricka Williams placed seventh in the Women's Discus Throw final with a heave of 48.65m. The event was won by Authorised Neutral Athlete Violetta Ignatyeva with a distance of 57.84m.
South Africa's Miné de Klerk took the silver medal in an African U20 record of 53.50m.
Alina Nikitsenka took the bronze for Belarus with a throw of 51.47m.
