Mother wakes from coma to two-month-old baby

Laura Ward fell ill with coronavirus while pregnant with her daughter Hope, and her condition deteriorated to the extent that she underwent an emergency Caesarean section.

Hope weighed just 3lb 7oz at birth but is now healthy after spending five weeks on the neonatal unit at Royal Bolton Hospital.

Ward admits that she has no recollection of the child being born, and woke up in the hospital two months later to see her daughter lying next to her.

She told ITV News: "I opened my eyes to see Hope on the bed with me, but I couldn't move any part of my body.

"All I could do was shake and nod my head."
