WHILE JAMAICAN high school teams are expected to dominate their North American counterparts at this weekend’s Penn Relays in Pennsylvania, head coach of G.C. Foster College’s track and field team, Maurice Wilson, who is also technical leader of the country’s senior track and field programme, is brimming with confidence.

Wilson believes G.C. Foster College will have a great meet in the collegiate section.

After dominating the local Intercollegiate Championships last month, the very experienced Wilson thinks his institution can do likewise against his foreign counterparts this weekend.

“ We at G.C. Foster College are happy that the Penn Relays are back after the pandemic and I am very confident it will be a successful one for [us],” said Wilson yesterday in an interview with The Gleaner on the eve of the departure of his institution to the carnival.

“We will be competing only in the male section where we will have three teams, 4x100, 4x200 and print medley relays and I expect all three teams to be successful and great things are expected from our 4x100 metres team after they ran 39.50 seconds at the Intercol meet without two of its regular members,” said Wilson, who thanked assistant coaches Lamar Richards, Jermaine Hamilton and Janiel Smith for the preparation of the teams heading to Penns.

They will make their debut on Friday at 12:35 p.m. in the preliminary round of the men’s 4x100 metres where they will come up against teams like Clemson, Houston, South Carilina, Arkansas and home team, the University of Pennysylvania. Just over an hour later they will compete in the heats of the men’s 4x200 metres relay at 1:45 p.m.

They will be hoping to pick up their first title on the same day at 4:30 p.m. when they contest the Championships of America Men’s College Sprint Medley Relay finals.
