Mark Bennett takes over KSAFA after SGM
MARK BENNETT is the new president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA).
Bennett earned the top post during a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the KSAFA at the St Lucia Avenue offices of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) yesterday.
Bennett replaced Wayne Shaw, who handed his resignation last week.
The former Brown’s Town Football Club president, who has served in football administration for more than 30 years, insists he will not be staying for the long haul, as he only plans to hold the fort until fresh elections are called next year.
He also praised outgoing president Shaw for a job well done in his five years as head of the administration.
“Under Mr Shaw’s leadership, football was spread wider at the youth level. Different federations, clubs from different federations and academies came on board (U10 tournaments) and we all welcomed that initiative. That is something that will be his legacy,” he said.
“I know a lot is expected of me. This presidency is not something that I ever sought, but my first goal is to always contribute to football.
“I have been in football for many years and the occasion called for me to step up. But I recognise that we are in transition and I am not going to try and stay here for four or five years.
“I always believe that, in a voluntary organisation, when a person has served their time, they should move on.
“Next year, we will have our elections based on the restructuring of the JFF. And we have young persons with talent, so it is important that we build, as service belongs not to one person,” he said.
