Surrey Kings extend unbeaten streak in JCA T10
The Surrey Kings extended their winning streak in the Dream XI-sponsored Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) T10 competition to six games as they secured a 50-run win over the Middlesex United Stars. The Stars were losing their fourth encounter of the campaign and are second from bottom on the points table.
The Kings first made 121 for three, then restricted the United Stars to 71 for six. The Kings are now on 18 points and lead the standings ahead of the Surrey Royals who are on 15 points from their six games.
The United Stars are in fifth place with six points, with the Cornwall Warriors at the bottom of the six-team table without a point.
In the opening fixture of yesterday’s double-header at Kensington Park, the Kings once again won the toss and decided to take the first strike, with opener Tevin Gilzene and Antwin Stevens adding 48 runs in just four overs before Stevens went to Damani Swell for 25.
Sewell then grabbed a wicket with his very next ball when he had wicketkeeper Kimani Wilson caught for a duck at 48 for two, but Gilzene and captain Jeavor Royal added 50 for the third wicket before Gilzene went for 39 from 27 balls with two fours and two sixes.
Royal finished off the innings nicely with an unbeaten 44 from 22 balls with five fours and three sixes with Sewell who took two wickets for 14 runs.
Royal then sealed his Man of the Match award by bagging two wickets for 13 runs in restricting the United Stars to 71 for six in their 10 overs.
National fast bowler Ojay Shields also picked up two wickets for six runs while Sheldon Pryce scored 21 for the losers.
For Royal, the sixth consecutive win is a perfect build-up to ultimately going all the way in the competition.
“We are playing some good cricket by doing the basics right and that’s why we are getting the results. The aim is to play this entire tournament and go unbeaten all the way to the title,” Royal said.
Meanwhile, the Middlesex Titans secured their third win after defeating the Surrey Risers by 13 runs.
The Titans could only manage 87 for five in their knock with Albert Gopie top scoring with 26.
Left-arm seamer Andell Gordon then took two wickets for just three runs to restrict the Risers to 74 for five.
