Address chaos at T-Tag lane
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I write this letter as a concerned citizen and a regular user of the Highway 2000, specifically the Vineyards toll plaza, to bring to light the inefficiencies and recurring malfunctions plaguing the T-Tag lane. I believe it’s high time that this issue is addressed in a thorough and timely manner.
The T-Tag system introduced as a panacea for travel woes, promising a hassle-free journey, devoid of long wait and cash handling. Unfortunately, the reality is starkly different. The single T-Tag lane at the Vineyards toll is constantly congested and is alarmingly prone to malfunctions. The efficiency and reliability it promised seem to have become mere pipe dreams.
Recently on a weekday, at around 7:20 p.m., there was a pile-up at the Vineyards toll plaza because of a malfunctioning T-Tag lane. Despite repeated attempts by motorists to use the lane, the situation failed to improve. We were then instructed to reverse and join the already-overcrowded cash-paying lane. It is worth noting that many of us had preloaded our T-Tags for the week’s travel and were not carrying sufficient cash, as we had planned and expected to rely on the T-Tag lane.
Such occurrences are not only inconvenient, but also potentially dangerous, causing unnecessary delays and leading to heightened frustration among drivers. They tarnish the reputation of the Highway 2000 and can also deter potential T-Tag customers, defeating the original purpose of the system.
We desperately need an efficient and customer-friendly system. Expanding the number of T-Tag lanes or improving the technology used might be potential solutions worth exploring.
The citizens of Jamaica deserve better, and it is high time that the relevant authorities address these concerns seriously. We trust that our voices will not fall on deaf ears and that we will soon see an end to these inefficiencies.
