This festive season, give yourself a gift of self-love
In the hustle and bustle of the festive season the last couple of weeks, we meticulously prepared for the celebration, bought gifts for loved ones, adorned our homes with decorations, and orchestrated delightful dinners. Now, as we have finally reached the days of actual celebration, most of us find ourselves on the verge of exhaustion. Did the culmination of these efforts leave us drained, prompting us to question if it really is “Merry Christmas” for us? While the satisfaction of others appreciating our efforts is undeniable, have we inadvertently neglected the most important recipient of our kindness – ourselves?
In our pursuit of expressing love for others and immersing ourselves in the holiday spirit, we overlook the necessity of extending the same love and kindness to ourselves. Is it not imperative to experience the essence of the season – joy, compassion, generosity, and forgiveness – within ourselves first, before it can genuinely radiate through our interactions without effort? Perhaps the exhaustion we feel at the end of the day is a gentle reminder that we have spent our energies without replenishing our own wellspring.
Let this festive season be a transformative one, where we learn to bestow upon ourselves the same love and consideration that we readily offer to those around us. This isn’t about pride or selfishness. Rather, it entails prioritising the nurturing of our inner world before extending our service to the world around us. Simple acts of self-care, expressions of kindness, and a compassionate attitude towards oneself can make a profound difference, ensuring that we emerge from the season not drained, but invigorated.
KINDNESS
How to practise kindness towards yourself?
– Allocate time for yourself: Dedicate at least half an hour each day to the self, nurturing your inner being, away from everyone and everything. Practise stillness and embrace silence.
– Acknowledge your strengths: Recognise and appreciate your strengths. Utilise them in your daily life. The more we use our strengths, the more powerful they become and flaws disappear.
– Prioritise your happiness: Place your true happiness above all else. Keep the inner child within you laughing and carefree. This practice will keep you light and enthusiastic in everyday life.
– Be selective in consumption: Choose wisely in what you consume. Avoid unhealthy and toxic information, food, and behaviour. Remember, what you read, watch, hear, and eat shapes you.
This festive season, let the spirit of giving extend to the most important person in your life – yourself. By incorporating these practices, you can ensure that the joy, compassion, and generosity you share with others originate from a well-nourished and vibrant inner self. After all, a merry Christmas begins with the gift for self first; a gift of self-love.
