The 2024 winner of The Gleaner's Children's Own Spelling Bee National Finals is Ashawney Burrell from St Andrew.

He successfully spelt the championship word 'Mala Fide.'

Burrell is from Campion College.

The competition had a total of 13 parish finalists as the representative from Westmoreland was unavoidably absent.

The semi-finals consisted of seven boys, a first in the competition's history.

Coming in at second place was Daniel Harrison from St Catherine.

Harrison failed to spell the word 'Chrestomathy.'

Third place was awarded to Jahmawl Hall from St Ann.

He failed to spell the word 'Condign.'

While no girls made it to the final round, based on spelling in the semi-finals and the scores received in yesterday's dictation, comprehension, written spelling and vocabulary tests, Kyria Hinds from St Mary came out on top as the girl's national champion.
