Petrojam says fuel supply not affected by fire
Petrojam Limited is seeking to assure that last evening's fire at the state-owned oil refinery will not affect the supply of petroleum products to the market.
“Both loading facilities in Kingston and Montego Bay opened this morning as per standard business hours," General Manager of Petrojam, Telroy Morgan stated in a media release on Wednesday morning.
"At Petrojam, we maintain a substantial reserve of products to ensure uninterrupted supply to the country in any emergency situation,” Morgan continued, saying that "We understand the critical nature of our products and firmly stand by our mandate to ensure that Jamaica never runs out of fuel."
The fire broke out at the refinery about 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Petrojam said it was brought under control through the swift action of its emergency response personnel, and several units from the Jamaica Fire Brigade.
There were no injuries reported.
The oil refinery said investigation into the incident continues and further updates will be provided.
