SERHA denounces unauthorised video recordings of patients at hospitals

The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is speaking out against the video recording of patients at hospitals and the subsequent sharing of such footage on social media, stating that this is a breach of hospital protocol and patient rights.
SERHA says it has taken note of the unauthorised video recordings of patients, captured by a family member admitted to Linstead Hospital in St Catherine, which are currently circulating on TikTok.
“We recognise that this incident may have caused distress to those affected, and we extend our deepest apologies to any patient who feels their trust has been violated.”
The authority emphasises that patient privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance.
“This breach of protocol is a serious violation of patient rights and undermines our longstanding commitment to safeguarding the confidentiality and dignity of every individual who seeks medical care at our facilities.”
SERHA is assuring the public that this matter is being taken seriously.
The authority says it has reinforced its internal protocols regarding the use of electronic devices within its facilities by posting signage in critical areas and reminding employees of the device usage policy.
Furthermore, the management of SERHA is reminding staff members of the importance of maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
Patients and their families are encouraged to report any concerns they may have to the Patient Affairs Department at the institution.
SERHA says it remains committed to upholding the highest standards of patient care and confidentiality in all aspects of its operations.
