Traffic changes for opening of Parliament on Thursday
The public is being advised that several roads within the environs of Gordon House in Kingston will be closed to vehicular traffic, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, to facilitate the Opening of Parliament.
Some areas will also have restricted or limited access to pedestrian.
These include:
* Duke Street – No vehicular traffic will be allowed on Duke Street between Sutton Street
and North Street.
* Charles Street - No vehicular traffic will be allowed on Charles Street between Hanover
Street and King Street.
* Beeston Street - No vehicular traffic will be allowed on Beeston Street between King
Street and Hanover Street.
* Mark Lane – Mark Lane will be operated as a One Way (south to north) between
Beeston Street and Charles Street.
Only vehicles with George William Gordon House stickers will be allowed access to these areas.
JUTC
Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses, which normally travel along Duke Street from East Queen Street to Heroes Circle,
will be diverted as follows:
West along East Street to East Parade, South Parade, West Parade, North Parade; North along
Church Street; East along North Street; North along Central Avenue; North along East Heroes
Circle back onto the original route.
Parking
Vehicles with George William Gordon House stickers will be allowed access to these areas.
1. Gordon House Parking Lot
2. Jamaica Manufactures Association’s Parking Lot-Duke Street
3. P.A. Benjamin Parking Lot-Corner Charles Street and Duke Street
Other vehicles will park as directed.
JDF vehicles will park on John’s Lane between Charles Street and Beeston Street.
No parking
No parking will be allowed on the following streets from 7:00a.m., until conclusion of the
ceremony:
1. South Heroes Circle- between East and West Heroes Circle
2. Duke Street - between Manchester Square and East Queen Street
3. Beeston Street - between Hanover Street and King Street
4. John’s Lane -between North Street and Georges Lane
(Except for JDF vehicles)
5. Mark Lane -between Beeston Street and Charles Street
6. Charles Street - between Hanover Street and King Street
7. East Street - Between South Heroes Circle and East Queen Street
8. East Queen Street - between Hanover Street and East Parade
9. Georges Lane - between Duke Street and John’s Lane
Traffic personnel will be deployed along the roadways and members of the public are being advised to follow their instructions
